Eberhard Schoneburg is a well-known IT , artificial intelligence and mobile industry expert. He is also a multiple entrepreneur and a successful global angel investor. Since the 1980s he founded over 30 high tech companies in Europe, Russia, Asia and the USA.
Eberhard is currently the CEO, CFO, and Chairman of Artificial Life, Inc. He manages all subsidiaries as well. After a management buy-out by him in 1997 he listed Artificial Life Inc. on the NASDAQ National Market stock exchange and achieved a peak market cap of approximately 400 MM USD in 2001. He is currently still the largest individual shareholder of the Company.
Eberhard is also a former full tenure professor for artificial intelligence (Furtwangen, Germany) and a prominent speaker at industry conferences worldwide. He has written five science lecture books and more than sixty research papers pertaining to among others: computer viruses, neural networks, evolution strategies and genetic programming. Mr. Schoneburg holds a Master of Science degree with honors in Mathematics and a minor in Philosophy from Freie Universität Berlin, Germany. In 1990 and again in 1992 he won the Berlin Innovation Award (first prize).
In his rare free time Eberhard is also a regular science columnist and loves boxer dogs and parrots. To keep mentally fit he regularly plays Shogi (Japanese chess) with friends. He holds the 2nd highest amateur (kyu) rank in Shogi and played competitive matches in the 1990s in several European Championships and had his best competitive result in the British Open of 1997 where he won the 3rd place.
Mr. Rene C. Jaeggi has studied at Waseda University in Tokyo Japanese language and sport. As a qualified Sales Manager he joined the tobacco concern Reynolds and moved then to battery manufacturer Duracell. In 1986, he moved to Adidas in Herzogenaurach, where he was Chief Executive Officer from 1987 to 1992. In 1996, he founded GRJ AG in Basel and possesses several holdings in various companies. Between 1995 and 2002, Mr. Jaeggi was Member of several Supervisory Boards. Between 1996 and 2002, he was President of FC Basel. In August 2002, he was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of 1. FC Kaiserslautern and from July 2004, he headed the organizational committee at the FIFA branch office in Kaiserslautern as part of the preparations for the 2006 World Cup.
Mr. Jaeggi is currently Chairman of the Board of Directors of Roeder Zeltsysteme & Service AG in Büdingen (Germany), Vice President of OPENLiMiT Holding AG in Baar/Switzerland, Member of the Board of Directors of Messe Schweiz in Basel/Switzerland AG as well of Orgatent AG in Grosswangern/Switzerland and Artificial Life, Inc. In addition, he is Chairman of the Board and Delegate of the Board of Directors at GRJ AG since August 2006.
Kazutoshi Miyake is a member of our audit committee.
Kazu-san is a well-known and very experienced games industry veteran. He has worked for over 30 years in international business development and various senior management positions.
From 1972 to 1993 Mr. Miyake was Manager of Nissho Iwai Corp, Japan’s leading trading house. From 1993 to 1994 he was General Manager of Sega Enterprises Japan responsible for Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific. From 1994 – 2001 he was CEO of Sega Europe. From 2001 – 2003 he held several board positions for companies like Andromeda, Akaei and Infogrames. Thereafter, he has been CEO of Stride Asia, CEO of Atari Japan and Chairman of Telcogames.
Dr. Gert Hensel joined our Board in July 2001. Since January 2000, Dr. Hensel has been the Chief Operating Officer and founder of VICUS Grundstuecksservice GmbH, a real estate management company. From January 1998 to January 2000, Dr. Hensel was the founder and a shareholder of Weiss-Grundstuecksverwaltungs--und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH Erkner, a real estate management company. Since January 1995, Dr. Hensel has been a corporate fiduciary for BIT GmbH, Berlin and a manager of DABU Accounting services.

Ernest joined Artificial Life in 1998 and is the company's Chief Technology Officer. Ernest holds a degree in Computer Science from Northeastern University with a minor concentration in Art and Mathematics. He has an extensive background in platforms, methodologies, frameworks, networking, and interface design from current and previous positions with Artificial Life and Harvard University.
Having worked extensively with software teams on core technology development and product development, Ernest has been deeply involved in projects from the design phase and architecture, to security and infrastructure build-out, as well as incorporating implementation and build management best practices.
Ernest is adept at determining core competencies, evaluating and judging domain knowledge of personnel and teams, and performing technical due diligence. He has a passion for new technology, especially mobile-related gadgets, which have been the focus of many past product developments.
Ada Fong is an external senior business advisor for the Company. She is our investment scout and handles partnerships with co-investors and asset deals.
Ms. Fong speaks five languages. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and studied German and Japanese at the University of California, Los Angeles.
Ms. Fong is currently Chairman and CEO of China Connections, Ltd. in Hong Kong.
Vivian Chung is a Hong Kong and UK qualified solicitor. Ms Chung joined artificial life, inc. with more than 10 years of legal experience from Hogan Lovells. Ms Chung obtained her LLB from London University and LLM in Chinese Comparative Law with distinction and scholarship from City University of Hong Kong.
In making full use of her legal background in both common and civil law jurisdictions, Ms Chung had worked on many large international intellectual property and corporate finance cases in both Hong Kong and mainland China. In getting a full experience of Chinese law, Ms Chung was stationed in Beijing in her last 3 years with Hogan Lovells.
She is now our in-house Legal Counsel responsible for a wide range of legal matters.
Nettie So manages human resources strategies for Artificial Life. She deals with all key issues related to employees such as hiring, compensation and benefits, training and development, and performance reviews and management. She enacts and improves the Company's HR policies and supervises compliance with labor laws.
Ms. So has more than 10 years of human resource management experience. She graduated from The Open University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Business Administration in HRM. During her employment with the Company, she worked on assignments in the US and received further HR training in Los Angeles.
